How the extension works

What CastBuddy uses

To find castable media, the extension looks for direct video links on the current webpage. It uses the page title and address, video address, file name, host, and format to build the list you see in CastBuddy.

Discovered videos

The latest results are kept in Chrome extension storage and replaced as you browse or rescan.

Saved videos and preferences

Videos you save, along with choices such as your theme, are kept in the CastBuddy player’s local browser storage.

CastBuddy does not upload your discovered-video list or browsing history to a CastBuddy database.

What happens when you cast

    You choose a video and device

    CastBuddy sends that video address and playback commands through Google Cast to the device you selected.

  2. 2

    Your device loads the video

    The Cast device requests the video directly from its media provider. Google Cast and the media provider handle that request under their own privacy policies.

Your choices

You control the local data

  • Remove individual saved videos inside CastBuddy.
  • Clear CastBuddy’s site data from Chrome to remove the saved list and preferences.
  • Change CastBuddy’s site-access setting in Chrome to limit which pages it can read.
  • Disable or uninstall the extension to stop it from processing webpages.

A few additional details

Website and third-party services

CastBuddy’s hosted pages use normal web infrastructure, which may process basic request details such as IP address, browser type, requested page, date, and time to deliver and protect the site. The player also loads Google’s Cast sender software to connect with Cast devices.

CastBuddy does not sell user data or use extension browsing activity for advertising. CastBuddy is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use CastBuddy’s use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
